Essays, Papers, and More
These are long form pieces I have written over the years. Note that my views may change and develop over time as I learn more on different subjects and bear this in mind as you read. Bibliographies are included at the end of each piece for further reading.
One Large Family Tree
How do Christians think about the scientific view of human evolution. How did all the genetic diversity we see today arise? When did Adam and Eve live?
Zechariah 14
What is the meaning of the prophecy found in Zechariah Chapter 14? This is the question I tried to answer in this paper.
General Revelation VS. Special revelation
Can people be saved apart from the special revelation found in God's word?
Slavery in Kentucky, 1849
This is a textual analysis of two documents holding opposing views of slavery in Civil War era Kentucky. Because it is analysis based, little of this paper is aimed at understanding the true biblical record on slavery, only on understanding different interpretations. Of course I believe slavery was abhorrent!
The Origin of the Soul
Does God create souls? Do parents pass souls on to their children like physical characteristics like hair and eye color? After my wife and I went through a miscarriage, I poured my heart into studying for this paper. It's an obscure, tertiary doctrine, but one that I greatly enjoyed studying!
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
What is it? Who is Baptized? It it the same as water baptism or separate? All that and a little bit on speaking in tongues. Baptists beware!
The Millennium
Not Millennial, Millennium. I discuss different interpretations on the end times and argue for a Historic Pre-Millennial view.
The Problem of Evil
If God is All-Powerful, All-Knowing, and All-Good, why does evil exist? This is a philosophical look at the problem of evil.
8 Women of the Faith
This is a longer book review I wrote over 8 Women of the Faith by Michael Haykin. The book highlights 8 mothers in the faith.
Gilgamesh and Genesis
The ancient Near-East is filled with creation and flood narratives. How do we know that the Bible is true and not just a rip-off? This is a Rēslection paper, part research, part reflection. It covers one of my favorite subjects in the Bible.
A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament
This is a book review on Mark Hamilton's A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament. This book was spiritually draining to read. I do not recommend it at all: find out why.
